life is not fair

man i'm really slacking off on this blog thing huh? it has been a crazy week for me and all i can say is SORRY! hope you have all had a great week. i just want to tell you how proud and amazed i am that you all are continuing to come to life group each week and bring friends. i have been in many life groups and they always get smaller as the weeks go on not bigger as this one has. you guys ROCK!! (for those of you keeping count our first week we had 17 this week we had 23!!)

so Jared talked this week about how Joseph was sold into slavery by his brothers and later became the second in command in Egypt which in turn helped him save those very same brothers from starving to death. only God can think like that people. Joseph's brothers were so jealous of him they wanted to get him out of their lives forever. they thought they were going to be making Joseph miserable for his entire life. and some of those years were hard. he was accused of something he didn't do, and was in jail for years. but through all of that he stayed close to God because he knew God had a plan for his life. i'm sure there was no way he could have imagined that it would be as huge as it turned out to be. Joseph said to his brothers - "You intended to harm me but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. Genesis 50:20

BOB ♥'s his car

sorry this has taken me a while to get to blogging this week. i've been busy. (or lazy. you decide)

didn't you just love Bob this week? he was awesome and totally put an amazing verse into perspective for us. he was kind enough to send me a copy of what he read us. so without further ado here is Psalms 23 Bob style...

“God is my driver, I won't break down. He fuels me with high-test, He tops off my fluids with high grade synthetics, He rebuilds my motor. He drives me cautiously, switching lanes only after checking His blind spots. Even though I commute through the belt way in rush hour with snow and ice on the roads, I will have traction at all times and fear no lane closure or collision; your precise steering and pedal control keep me safe. You wash and wax me across the street from Chevies and you check my oil and tires pressure; no reservoir runs dry. Surely I will be admired in many car shows every Spring, Fall, and Summer. I will be parked in God's garage always.”

awesome! wonder if anyone else could do something like this? there could be a surprise in your future. pick the favorite thing you talked about at LG and see if you can re-write scripture to make it relevant to you and to now. i'm gonna try it myself.

fruit, abide, branches, huh?

John 15:4-6

4Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6If anyone does not remain in me, he is like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.

ok i know it's a hard one to wrap your brain around. that's one of the reasons i picked that verse. to stretch you a little bit. did we do a good job of breaking it down for you? just remember the branch that i brought in. when the branch was no longer connected to the "vine" it would just die. remain in Jesus and you will live! :)

i found this today...only those branches that stay connected to the vine (Jesus) can produce fruit. The kind of "fruit" Jesus wants his followers to produce is based on loving God and other people. so continue to show the love of Jesus in all you do. pray for your enemies. read your bible. go to church and life group. invite your friends to come with you. tell them about microwaving Peeps. that should get them there!

His Grace is enough

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast. - Ephesians 2:8-9

we talked about GRACE last night. such a churchy word. but oh so important as a Christian. it really is what we believe in a nutshell. there is no way we can "earn" our way into heaven right? only by God's GRACE do can we get there. and what is GRACE? dictionary.com says GRACE is - the freely given, unjustified favor and love of God. so GRACE is the opposite of getting what you deserve. cause say you hit your brother. what you deserve is to be hit back, right? well with God, he doesn't. and that my friends is GRACE.

because God is holy, he can not be around sin. he just can't. and because as human's we all sin, God can not be around us. but He loves us so, so much, that he wanted to make a way for us to be with him forever. that's why he sent us His son, Jesus. Jesus is the GRACE that covers our sins so that we can be in the presence of God forever.

Jared asked if anyone had a friend who needed God's GRACE but feels like they don't. your friend thinks they can get there without Jesus. (or GRACE) wonder why that is? even though i know people who are truly good, i bet there are times when they get mad at their parents. or think bad thought about someone. or tell a small lie. those are sins people. even the itty-bitty ones will keep us from God. so if your friend that thinks they can get to heaven on their own, by doing good things, they can't. remember salvation does not come from doing good works. you can't do ANYTHING that is so good God would say - oh you were so good, you can come to heaven. pray for your friends and encourage them to come to church. sometimes it's hard to talk to friends about God and Jesus. but if you tell them what a great time you have at church and maybe give them some candy, they might come and then Jared can tell them about Jesus and you can just enjoying having a friend you can spend the rest of eternity with!

Laughter does good like a medicine - Proverbs 17:22

ever notice how you can't stay sad/mad/upset/unhappy etc. when you are laughing? that's because it makes you feel good. it's a medical fact. and God's word (remember that living thing we talked about) says it does good like a medicine (say a Tylenol or something). i love how you all made me laugh last night. it makes me feel good. so thank you all for being quick to laugh. even though it was mostly at each other! ;D

Last night we discussed Hebrews 4:12-13. go look for it in your bible. it's good practice. in vs. 13 - and no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked (sorry sarah) and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account - i thought it was funny (funny strange not funny haha) that when Jared asked us what we thought that meant, we all immediately thought of bad things we do. we thought of being bad, doing wrong, hurting others, saying mean things. not the good things that we have in our hearts and thoughts like sitting with the new kid, or helping an old lady cross the street. just made me think. why don't you ponder on that this week?

also i loved how Jared told us that the Bible is the living word of God, alive and powerful. just reading it can expose our innermost thoughts, desires and actions. (and not just the bad ones!) doesn't that make you feel like you could take on anything?! just opening this book, gives you strength to fight your problems, and gives you direction to do God's will in your life. God uses the Bible to change peoples lives. let it help change yours. i know it's changed mine and continues to every time i read it.
